Mexican pension funds, or afores, have over US$130 billion under management, about 11% of the country’s GDP.  Yet CKDuntil recently, they were legally prohibited from investing in private equity.  The restriction restrained the growth of Mexico’s PE market: according to LAVCA, private equity flows were only 0.05% of GDP in Mexico in 2006, compared to 0.08% in the rest of LatAm and 3.96% in the U.S.  Mexico was missing out on the trend among LatAm’s fastest-growing markets, including Brazil, Chile and Colombia, where pension funds were beg.....
