While structured finance provides an important channel for financing economic activity in any economy, it offers vital services to developing markets. A strong structured finance sector is generally a sign that a country’s debt market is developing and maturing. The bank sector in the developing markets of Latin America tends to be deep but not broad. That is, Latin American banks tend to offer a wide array of financing alternatives to their biggest and best customers, but they generally do not serve a broad swath of the economy. Structured finance provides needed financing to rapidly growing but underfinanced sectors of the Latin American economies.....
